Has served on the Supreme Court of Texas, Place 8, since 2019. Previously served as a justice on the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston (2012-2018). Formerly practiced appellate law as a partner at Bracewell LLP and Mayer Brown, argued in the U.S. Supreme Court and Texas Supreme Court, and taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law. Clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justices Byron R. White and John Paul Stevens.

HELPED CREATE TEACH TEXAS, a civic education partnership that sends lawyers and judges into seventh-grade classrooms to teach students about the Texas court system and legal history.[1]
Gender Issues
FILED A CONCURRENCE UPHOLDING THE PROHIBITION OF TRANSITIONING MINORS through certain medical treatments administered for the purpose of transitioning biological sex or affirming a perception of sex inconsistent with biological sex (2024).[1][2][3][4]
Protect Life
FILED A CONCURRENCE UPHOLDING THE LEGISATURE'S RIGHT TO LIMIT ABORTION, stating that, “In ratifying our present Constitution, the people of Texas granted their elected Senators and Representatives all ‘Legislative power of this State.’ TEX. CONST. art. III, § 1. This grant includes the power to limit abortion, which was already a state criminal offense at the time of ratification.”[1]
